Today I will be revealing something that most of you probably already know...so, yes, this is a pretty anti-climactic post. However, it will also be an interactive post of sorts, so stick around!
The big news is that my final day of work in the 'outside world' (ooh, makes it sound scary, doesn't it?) will be this coming Tuesday, January 31. I didn't end the phrase at 'final day of work' because I think we all know that homemakers and stay-at-home moms tend to have their hands quite full of not just work, but WORK. And no paycheck to boot, what a treat! Still, I wouldn't have it any other way, and I feel so blessed that I have this opportunity to stay at home with Miles.
You might have done the math already and noticed that I'm leaving work just a teensy bit before my due date. Okay, I'm leaving almost four months ahead of time. It generally follows from this point on that people will ask, "Why?" and I could go on for a while with the list of reasons and all of that, but today is not the day I will do that. I don't know that I'll ever detail it all, but I might talk about it at some point. It's not that I'm keeping some kind of secret -- it's just a lot of information, and frankly, I don't want to bore you (I don't want to hear any of you smart-alecks saying "Too late!").
Here's where the 'interactive' part of this post comes in -- exciting, isn't it? Okay, if you were me, and you were about to have a four-month break of sorts before your entire world as you know it changed...what might be some things on your to-do list? I do have my own list of projects that I'll be working on, but I could always use a fresh perspective. One new mother recently gave this advice: "Take it from someone who did it the wrong way -- use this time to rest!"
So...item #1 on my list: REST. Now share your list with me!

If it were me, I'd probably plan to use the time to really clean and organize and throw out extraneous stuff since more "stuff" will be coming into your life along with the baby. (Babies seem to garner a lot of paraphrenalia, between toys and clothes and furniture!) I say I'd "plan to" and not just "I'd use the time" because I know that I wouldn't do as thorough a job as I'd like, but any progress is still positive. But since you moved not that long ago, your home is probably fairly well in order anyway and you probably sorted your clutter for the move. The other thing I might do is gradually stock up on mundane and potentially bulky household/baby items -- e.g., buy a pack of toilet paper, a pack of baby wipes, and a bottle of laundry detergent a week -- so I wouldn't have to scramble to buy (and carry) those things with a baby in tow for at least the first few months. I'm sure others will have more creative suggestions!
Woohoo, S-A is getting into it! Thanks for the wonderful suggestions! I don't so much need creative (and yours were, by the way) as I need that fresh perspective, and that's going to be, well, whatever anyone gives me because it's not my own. Thanks Sally-Anne! =)
I know you have a ton of digital pictures that you have already taken in the last year, but if you have all your printed pictures now would be a good time to get them organized and maybe put them in a scrapbook.
I would sleep in every single day, watch tv to my heart's content and read, read, read. If I were really feeling up to it I'd go shopping. When my hubby was home and on the weekends, I'd hang out with him as much as possible... go out to eat lots, and do our favorite things together.
Honest, that's what I'd do. :) Other than some mandatory cleaning or setting up for baby, I wouldn't a thing else.
It's funny 'cos just this morning as our twins woke us up at the crack of dawn (it seemed like), I asked Kevin, "Do you remember before we had kids? We'd sleep in every Saturday and go to IHOP when we rolled out of bed!" Haven't done that in over FOUR YEARS. So seriously, do it while you can! And savor every moment. :) It'll be just as cool after Miles is born... just... different.
Shellie, that is actually an awesome suggestion. I think when we moved, I made time to put all of my photos in chronological order, but that's as far as I got. I have quite a few empty albums waiting, so that will be a great thing to get done, thanks!
Sarah, your suggestion is probably my favorite. Hmm, wonder why? =) One great thing about Casey's job is that he is able to choose to take his day off on Thursday, which gives us a weekday together. Of course, that is the day he usually chooses to get yardwork and other 'honey-do' things done, but I'm sure we'll take a few of those and really make them all ours.
I know that for my first three days off I am going to indulge in rest like I've never done before. Then, I'll be on a slow start to getting some projects done, but in the most fun and relaxing way possible. =)
